Project Description
Sliabh Liag Distillery
Phonetically « Shlieve League », it means Sliabh (mountain) Liag (Grey or Flagstone).
County Donegal is often described as « a place apart » and the Sliabh Liag Peninsula, became one of the most prolific areas of quality poitín production in the country with parts of the county declaring independence rather than submit to regulation.
The company is leaded by James and Moira Doherty who returned to their spiritual home, after working abroad, to build their distilleries.
The gin distillery is up and running since the autumn of 2017 while the company itself began its activities in 2016. Planning permissions have been given (autumn 2018) to build their whiskey distillery in the coming months.
Their mission together with the Hughes family, Dom de Lorenzo and John Davidson, their Meitheal (a gaelic word for people gathering together to get the job done), is to reclaim the distilling heritage of Donegal and creating rich smoky Irish whiskies as it was until the 19th century.
Waiting for it, they offer to the market an award winning blended whiskey and a genuine Irish Maritime Gin.
