Project Description
Monsieur Balthazar distillery
The Balthazar distillery began as an idea that came to an actor during a theatre meeting in 1984 in Hérisson in the north of the Auvergne region of France. Following a play about a Native American tribe that was slaughtered after drinking alcohol, actor Olivier Perrier had the idea of serving a glass of eau de vie at the end of every performance.
It was not until 2001 that his definitive whisky recipe appeared, composed of organic corn, malted barley and rye, like bourbon – after all, the distillery is located in the former French duchy of Bourbon.
In 2013, the distillery was taken over by David Faverot, who gradually professionalised the business, investing in equipment with a greater capacity and reducing the range of products to the best sellers. Its flagship products are Hedgehog whisky and Sweethog whisky cream liqueur, as well as limited edition single cask variations of its whisky.
